Teams release practice participation reports on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each player is listed as did not practice, limited, or full. The single most useful signal in fantasy is the direction of that week: a player who goes limited on Wednesday and full on Friday is almost always playing, and a player who trends the other way is a real risk no matter what the coach says at the podium.
What the designations mean
Friday's final report adds a game status. Out is out. Doubtful means about a 10 percent chance to play; treat it as out. Questionable is the one that matters, and it covers everything from a ceremonial listing to a true coin flip. Read the week behind it: questionable with three full practices is fine, questionable after two missed days is a Sunday morning problem. No designation at all means the team expects him to play.
Setting a lineup around a questionable player
Two rules. First, know the kickoff times. A questionable player in the late window can be started with a backup plan in the early window ready to swap in if the inactives list goes the wrong way, but the reverse leaves you with a zero. Second, know the replacement before you need him. If your starter sits, who inherits the touches? The handcuff or the next receiver up is often on your wire on Friday and gone by Saturday night.
